Terms of Service
Last updated: 9 September 2026
These terms cover your use of Jackal. Using the app means you agree to them. They are written to be read, not to be impressive.
Contacting us
In these terms, “Jackal”, “we”, and “us” mean the operator of the Jackal app. Write to support@usejackal.com about anything here — including reports, account problems, and questions about these terms.
What Jackal does
Jackal identifies music playing around you and keeps a record of it — what was playing, when, and if you allow location access, where. You can save songs, build playlists, follow other people, and message them.
Recognition is performed by third-party services. It is not always right, and it will sometimes fail entirely — in a noisy room, with obscure recordings, or with live performances. Do not rely on Jackal where an incorrect or missing identification would matter.
Who can use it
You must be at least 13 years old. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you need a parent or guardian's permission. You are responsible for what happens under your account, so keep your login details to yourself.
Rules for using Jackal
There is zero tolerance for objectionable content or abusive behaviour. Accounts that break this rule are removed, usually without warning.
Specifically, do not use Jackal to:
- Harass, bully, threaten, stalk, or impersonate anyone
- Post or send content that is hateful, sexually explicit, violent, or otherwise objectionable
- Send spam, scams, or unsolicited promotion
- Share anything you do not have the right to share
- Break the law, or encourage anyone else to
- Scrape, reverse engineer, overload, or interfere with the service
- Use recognition results to build a competing identification service
Reporting and moderation
You can report any user or message from within the app, and you can block anyone from their profile. Blocking stops them contacting you or seeing your activity.
We review reports and may remove content or terminate accounts. We aim to act on reports of objectionable content within 24 hours. We are not obliged to explain a decision, and we may act without notice where someone's safety is involved.
Your content
What you create stays yours — your playlists, messages, and recognition history. To run the app we need permission to store it and show it where you have chosen: your followers see your activity, and the person you message receives your message. That permission ends when you delete the content or your account.
Song titles, artist names, and artwork come from third parties and belong to their owners.
Premium
Jackal is free to use, with an optional Premium subscription that raises daily recognition limits.
Subscriptions are sold and billed by Apple, not by us. They renew automatically until cancelled, and you manage or cancel them in your Apple ID settings — not in Jackal. Refunds are handled by Apple under their terms. Your purchase is also governed by Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement.
Prices and what Premium includes can change. If a change reduces what you already paid for, we will tell you before it takes effect.
Ending things
You can stop using Jackal whenever you like and delete your account from Settings. Deletion is permanent.
We may suspend or terminate an account that breaks these terms, or where we are required to. If we terminate your account without cause and you have unused paid time, ask Apple for a refund and we will support the request.
The legal part
Jackal is provided “as is”. We do not promise it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or accurate, and we make no warranties beyond those the law requires and does not let us disclaim.
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.
Nothing here removes rights you have under consumer law where you live.
Changes and disputes
If these terms change materially, we will update the date above and note the change in the app. Continuing to use Jackal after that means you accept the new terms.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, and any dispute belongs in the state or federal courts located there.
